The Gun
(M. Barker)

In his sophomore year he was on the B team
But he dressed with the varsity which was his dream
That year he didn’t play much, he was only a sub
The head coach was Pearl, the Assistant, Tub

But by his senior year the team had no size
So they turned to him to play against the big guys
He’d never played center but what else could he say
He was their tallest player so he said “Okay”

Chorus

Pearl says to Tub, “We’ll give it a try
It can’t hurt nothin’ and we might be surprised
We’ll put him in the middle though he’s always played guard
He can’t shoot like his brother, but he tries real hard”

It wasn’t very long till he hoisted up a shot
He decided he liked it, he liked it a lot
Some might say he took more than his share
He says “It’s all in the takin’ and the shot was there”

Next thing you know he’s added a hook
As a large percentage of the shots he took
He’s lettin’ ‘em fly, not by Pearl’s design
From under the basket to the center line

2nd Chorus

After one game when his points totaled 20
He ask a team mate if he’d shot too many
“You sure shot a lot, I don’t know the amount”
He said, “I don’t know either cause I didn’t keep count”

”If you wanna shoot it shoot it, have a shooting spree
If you don’t wanna shoot it, then give it to me
I sure ain’t bashful, I’ll shoot a few more
If you don’t shoot the ball, then you ain’t gonna score”
